sobriety check in

It's September 24th and I'm still kicking and screaming. Sobriety is pretty amazing and has really helped me in my mission to figure out what I want to do with life. I thought of exploring Venture Capitalism, the tech industry, corporate america, amongst other things. For a brief moment, I wanted to take 6 months off and fly to Europe to learn how to cook. Other thoughts were volunteering for the Peace Corps for 2 years and going back to the Philippines to check out the thriving economy (thanks China). BUT, in the end I've decide to continue my path in real estate finance and push for what I've always wanted to do, run my own fund. So, I give myself a pat on the back and thank myself for taking a bold attempt to correct my lifestyle. It has shown long term benefits, for once...

Google + demise

If you check my previous blog post, I mention the fact that I have and will never understand google +. I do like the circles theory but in the end, there is no user experience and I don't really see the of any replay value. It's basically signing up for an uglier and less resourceful facebook. Almost as if Zuckerberg gave Google, a rough draft of what facebook was to look like while he was blackout drunk. I think what Google needs to do is integrate + into their Gmail in order to survive and have more meaningful user experience. One thing Google loves to do is have add-ons or apps to everything they produce. Why not make + an add-on to Gmail, for example have a section on the bottom left or right above the gchat feature to show status updates. Or create a section in your gmail like they have now with important and normal emails and have a section dedicated to +. Since you can categorize each circle to your own importance level, have your most important level showcase on gmail.  That would be a constant flow of + news to the users eyes and can greatly enhance +'s marketability. If not, do something unique Google. You are Google and house hundreds of people with IQs over 160...

sober check in

To my loyal followers,

Been sober since August 27th and loving life. Although, I did not quit cigs, which is a lot tougher that I thought, I found sobriety pleasant and easy to maintain. I am by no means an alcoholic, drug addict, or addict (except for Fresca) when I decided to quit most of my vices. The reason for this little initiative was to prove to myself that I can enjoy my life without having to get soooooo wasted (removing my frat mentality) and actually remember a conversation at the bar. In addition, to "cleansing my life" I've had a great time with the clarity that is the direct result of not being hungover every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings... Surprisingly, I don't miss drinking alcohol even though I do like the taste of beer and a gin & tonic. So, guys maybe give it a shot. I know you'll feel better every Monday and so will your bank account. I'll report once again at the end of the month.
